Jajpur (Odisha), Feb 18: A 15-year-old girl was strangulated to death allegedly by her father for having a relation with a local man at Laxmi Narayanpur in this district, police said on Thursday.
The accused strangulated the girl to death while she was asleep in her room and her body was cremated by her family secretly and charred remains were thrown into the nearby river, a police officer said.
Though the incident took place on Sunday, it came to light after a woman of the village yesterday reported the matter to policemen who arrested the father identified as Nakula Jena (45).
As the girl refused to break off her relation with a local man, the father killed her, the police officer said.
The accused has since been remanded to jail custody today.
