Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: A container terminal will soon be set up at Paradip port to facilitate easy transportation and cost cutting.

A report regarding this was released by Director (Projects and Services) of Container Corporation of India (CCI) V Kalyanram during his visit to the port on Thursday.

Paradip is the second largest port in the country in terms of cargo transportation. After the port administration proposed for the need of a cargo container terminal in the area, looking at the massive transportation scenario in the port, the corporation has agreed for the project.

One of the leading companies involved in the setting up of the cargo container terminals in 63 places across the country, CCI Director Kalyanram visited the port area and had a meeting with the port President, Custom Commissioner and other officials of the port. In the first phase 15 crore will be spent for setting up the terminal, which might take five to six months, he said.

“The port would provide all the infrastructural requirements like 400 acres of land. It would take 10-15 years for the completion of the project. At least 10,000 container businesses would be made annually, while stock yard, railway freight terminal, automobile hub and cargo hub, will be set up,” Kalyanram said.

“Transportation in all three mediums will require advanced jetty which will also be set up. Paradip has all the pre -requisites to be a successful container terminal in the country,” he added.
