Bhubaneswar, Mar 3: Aimed at improving critical care services in rural areas of Odisha, the State government is planning to launch an e-ICU or Tele-ICU programme linking all district hospitals with a central Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in SCB Medical College and Hospital by August this year.

The programme will function under Odisha Tele-medicine Network (OTN) and will use the tele-medicine technology to enable communication between the Central unit in SCB and remote ICUs in the districts. The technology inputs would be provided by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).  The district ICUs will directly contact the central ICU centre in SCB for any advice about the condition of the patient in ICUs.

It may be noted here that district hospitals of Nuapada, Malkangiri, Nabrangpur, Balangir, Puri,  Koraput, Balasore, Mayurbhanj , Kalahandi and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswarhave six bedded ICUs . These ICUs have been equipped with an advanced critical support system, including two ventilators, trained staff strength of two doctors, 10 nurses and paramedical staff trained in intensive care.

Doctors in SCB College and Hospital ICU will get special incentives for providing their services in this programme, the authorities have said.
