New Delhi, Mar 10: Railways will soon invite bids for redevelopment of five stations including Chandigarh and Anand Vihar stations under the PPP mode, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said here on Wednesday.
Redevelopment of stations involve construction of world class facilities for passengers including shopping plazas, eateries and other services at rail premises leveraging real estate.
“As you would know station is a place where people are looking forward to development. I have already announced that we are working on a PPP mode l to develop the stations and in some cases we are also involving the PSUs. These PSUs will be able to take it up on faster bid,” Prabhu said while replying to the debate on Railway Budget in the Lok Sabha.
He said the “financial bid for Habibganj station, this is not something for which I will take credit; this was going on for some time, has been received and we will take it forward. Five more stations namely, Anand Vihar, Brijbasan, Chandigarh, Shivaji Nagar and Gandhi Nagar will be out for bidding very soon.”
The Cabinet has approved for 400 stations development. Stakeholder consultations for model stations are underway. Aesthetic improvement has already happened in many States, in Rajasthan where local art has been depicted in most of the stations.
