Rourkela, March 29: As a part of Rourkela Steel Plant’s initiative of helping students of peripheral villages and resettlement colonies for furthering their professional studies under its Corporate Social Responsibility, as many as 16 students were presented cheques of Rs 30,000 each at a function here on March 26.
.The cheques were presented by Ashwini Kumar, CEO, RSP in the presence of PK Pradhan, ED (P&A), Subhendra Das, ED (Projects), SK Nayak, GM(TS) and many other senior officers of RSP, students and parents.
Addressing the students present on the occasion, Kumar said that in spite of all odds the students have pursued their academic interest which is commendable. “There is nothing which is higher than education. You have done hard work to reach this level. Please do well in your studies to meet the aspirations of your parents, teachers and friends,” he added.
The students and parents in turn thanked RSP for helping them in achieving their goals. Pradhan said that RSP has always strived for the continuous development of its peripheral villages along with its own growth. Subhendra Das observed that the success of the students would provide an added impetus to the progress of the region.
Notably, in order to enhance the educational standard of the underprivileged students of peripheral areas, a scheme for providing financial assistance to them for pursuing professional studies has been formulated since 2006-07.
Under this scheme SC/ST and economically backward students of the peripheral areas are being provided with financial assistance ranging from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.50 lakh each for pursuing professional education in disciplines such as Engineering, Medical, etc, as also Post-Graduate Courses like MBA.
