Bhubaneswar, April 10: The four main gates of the holy Jagannath temple at Puri will be completely replaced by new ones and the construction work regarding this is going to start on Monday, temple sources said.
The changes in the main gates, a first in the thousand year history of the ancient shrine has been very much anticipated as a panel of experts which inspected the gates on April 3, revealed facts that they were beyond any repair. They were notably repaired many times before this, sources said.
A ten member carpenter team from Delang area will construct the new gates. They will start work from Monday as per rituals within two months at Narendrakona garden.
After a donor showed his interest to give required wooden planks for the construction, 353 pieces of planks have reached the temple on Wednesday. Since the gates are 17 feet high, 35 pieces of 18 feet high planks, other 14 feet and 16 feet high planks have also been brought which are being kept in Narendrakona godown.
The gates will be constructed as per the designs prepared and they will be foiled with copper over which beautiful artistic designs will be made.
