OSRTC on the path of revival; Company makes operational profit over last 13 years

Bhubaneswar: June 11: Odisha Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) has started its voyage on the path of revival. The State has been recognized as one of the 3 profit making State Transport Corporations in India other two being the Corporation of Maharashtra and Karnataka. The corporation has won around 14 awards at all India Level over last 13 years. This has been discussed in a high level meeting on OSRTC held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sri Aditya Prasad Padhi in secretariat conference hall wherein Principal Secretary Commerce & Transport Sri Sanjay Rastogi along with Managing Director OPSRTC Sri Suhansu Sadangi presented the updated status of the Corporation along with proposed revival plan for discussion. Available data show presently OSRTC is running about 459 buses. MD Sri Sadangi said that it is lowest in comparison to leading 10 states of the country. In spite of that the corporation has constantly earned net annual profit since 2002-03. The annual profit during 2014-15 was around 5.03 cr. The Corporation has also been able to pay salary of the staff and operational cost without any budgetary or outside support. It has also initiated major internal restructuring. These reforms have been appreciated by ASRTUs. It has downsized its bus-to-staff ration from almost 1:18 in 1977-78 to 1: 4 in 2015-16. Presently the Corporation has successfully overcome the problem of over staffing. OSRTC has started e-ticketing and internet ticketing and around 40% of its tickets are being booked through this. Spl Secretary Commerce & Transport Sri Monoj Mishra along with MD Sri Sadangi proposed for purchase of new comfortable busses with Govt support and said that this investment would make the corporation

self-sustaining over 3 to 4 years. Chief Secretary considering various dimensions of the proposal and related business model for it advised the Corporation to work out a detail fiscal plan and put it to Govt for approval. Principal Secretary Commerce & Transport Sri Sanjay Rastogi, Special Secretary Railway Coordination Sri Manoj Mishra along with senior officers from OCRTC and Commerce & Transport department participated in deliberations.
