Jointly developed barak-8 missile test fired today

Chandipur, Balasore, June 30 : On Thursday around 8:16 AM at Chandipur, Balasore, the ballistic missile Barak -8 had been test fired form launch pad number 3 of the integrated Test Range.

The missile has been developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRD) of India and Administration for the Development of Weapon and Technological Infrastructure of Israel.

The hitting range of Barak-8 missile is between 30 km and 70 km. Having the capabilities of destroying submarines, missiles, and warships, the missile can be launched from air, water and land.With capacity of carrying 60 kg ammunition, the missile weighs 275 kg and is 4.5 meters in length.

For safety and security reason, the Balasore District Administration authorities shifted 3,665 residents residing within 2.5 km of launch pad no-3.

Notably, the missile was initially planned to be test fired on Wednesday, June 29. But launch was postponed in the eleventh hour. The naval version of Barak-8 was test-fired for the first time on December 29 and 30 in 2015.
