Coastal People to get Biometric Card for prevention from terror attacks through Coastal Line

Bhubaneswar, July 13: To prevent the Mumbai like terror strike that happened on 26/11, the government has decided to initiate I-cards to all the coastal areas residents and for this the fisheries and animal resources development has issued a biometric fingerprint identity cards to 2.61 lakh fishermen of seven coastal districts. The census was started by the fisheries officials at Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Puri, Ganjam and Khurdha’s coastal areas to identify and give I-card fisher folks. The card would be having the name, age, address, birthplace, occupation, qualification, land records, fingerprints and other important information of the people.

The biometric card has been prepared by the Electronic Corporation of India, Hyderabad. This step has been taken by the Central Government after terrorist had use routes to attack Mumbai, sources informed. On the basis of the latest survey, around 50,000 fishermen would be facilitated with biometric cards, official informed.

Along with this the department has also issued licenses to 22,000 fishing vessels, including 1,754 trawlers in the state. It has been decided that all the fishing vessels would be painted in red and black colors which would thus help in checking of fishing vessels of other states and countries in to the sea water of Odisha.
