NALCO gets green signal for Pottangi Bauxite Mines

Bhubaneswar, July 14: With the thought of taking an important step for mining industry, the State Government on Wednesday granted mining lease of Pottangi Bauxite mines at Koraput to National Aluminum Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna Public Sector Unit for 50 years. Spreading over an area of 1738 hectares, these Bauxite mines would provide raw material to NALCO’s 5th stream for its existing alumina refinery, Damanjodi Alumina refinery expansion plan which costs of Rs 5,600 crore, sources said. Nalco has currently a 22, 75,000 TPA refinery at Damanjodi in Koraput District.

An order regarding this has been issued by the State’s Department of Steel ad Mines. NALCO would live up to the expectations through expansion, investment and CSR initiatives for people of Odisha, and for both Centre and State, said Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD of NALCO, while attending the meeting.
