Bengaluru, July 19: With Karnataka Minister, K J George having resigned on Monday following a court direction, Siddaramaiah Government is now under pressure after former deputy superintendent of police (DSP) M K Ganapathy committed suicide on July 7 as he was being harassed by three persons- Karnataka minister K J George and two top IPS officers, one being from Odisha named Pranab Mohanty and is liable to take action against these three accused persons.
The deceased police official’s son Nehal Ganapathy, requested the court to direct the police to register an FIR and take up investigation against the minister and two officers for allegedly abetting his father’s suicide. George waited for hours after a local court at Madikeri in Kodagu district, when a private criminal complaint was filed by Nehal.
On Thurday, Ganapathy (51) was found hanging from the ceiling fan in a room at a lodge in Madikeri shortly after he addressed a local media channel saying that the Minister and AM Prasad (IG-Intelligence) and Pranab Mohanty (IGP- Lokayukta) shall be held responsible and will have to face the repercussions for whatever step he incurs.
George, Minister for Bengaluru development said that he has already submitted his resignation and it is upto the CM now. He also added that he had initiated steps for an impartial inquiry and that he is confident enough to believe that he has not harassed anybody and will be proved innocent in court.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah faced growing pressure to remove George and so the order was given to the Additional Judicial Magistrate First Class Annapurneshwari, with the Opposition stalling proceedings of both the Houses of legislature, which were abruptly called for a sine die today before the July 30 schedule.
Ganapathy’s wife Pavana and Nehal stated that the police having rejected their complaint at the Kushal Nagar Police on July 10 against George and IPS officials A M Prasad and Odia IPS officer Pranab Mohanty, made them approach the court. They made an appeal to undergo required action against the offense which is punishable under IPC Sec (306) with Sec (34). The complaint also wrote that the culprits are influential persons who threatened the police from taking action against them.
Nehal’s counsel, M T Nanaiah informed that the Investigating Officers are suppose to interrogate George and the two other police officers and must reach a decision as to whether to arrest them or not. Gapanathy’s wife hopes get justice.
Coming under attack from the Opposition, which has been in rounds during the Assembly proceedings since Monday last, the Karnataka government constituted a Judicial Commission, headed by K N Keshavanarayana to enquire into the alleged suicide. The Oppositions, BJP and JDS denied of a judicial probe, thus insisting on a CBI inquiry and resignation of George.
