Bhubaneswar, July 27: The activists of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) have begun the 12-hour hartal in Baripada town by picketing in front of Government and business establishments and also sealing the roads in various parts of the National Highway 18 and 49, passing through Mayurbhanj district.

The hartal has been called by the JMM to fulfill its two demands, which is the setting up of a Football Academy in the district and the development of tourist destinations.

The protestors blocked roads at several places in the district by burning tyres or by picketing, due to which the shop owners downed their shutters and the vehicular movement came to a halt. The normal life was adversely affected in Baripada town due to the hartal. Adequate police forces have been appointed by the local administration to maintain law and order in the district.

Security arrangements and patrolling have also been made to maintain peace and harmony and also to prevent any untoward incident.
