Bhubaneswar, Aug 1: On Monday, the Odisha government slashed the fares of all categories of passenger buses on the basis of the automatic fare adjustment mechanism after oil companies reduced diesel prices by Rs 2.01 yesterday.
Based on the notification issued by the Commerce and Transport department fares for ordinary and express buses have been reduced by 1 paisa/km on the other hand ticket prices for Deluxe and AC Deluxe passenger buses are decreased by 2 paisa/km. Thus, from now the fares for ordinary buses will now be 59 paisa/km which was earlier 60 paisa/km and the fare for express buses will be 62 paisa/km from 63 paisa/km. Similarly, deluxe category buses will now charge 82 paisa/km as against 84 paisa/km and AC Deluxe passenger buses will cost Rs 1.03 instead of Rs 1.05 paisa/km.
In all this is the third attempt initiated by the government to reduce the bus fare. Earlier it had done so on January 21 and July 1.
