12-hour bandh in Sundargarh hinders life in the district

Bhubaneswar, Aug 11: Protesting the construction of barrage, proposed by Chhattisgarh government on the Ib River, a tributary of Mahanadi, the Sundargarh Congress Committee called for a 12-hour bandh in the district today. The protestors also demanded issue of ration cards to eligible beneficiaries.

Vehicular movement, shops and business establishment were affected due to the bandh. To avoid any unwanted situation, police has increased the security across the district.

The construction of a barrage over Ib River will lead to lower catchment areas not receiving water which would create lot of problems for the people, Dusmanta Kumar Naik, President of Sundargarh District Congress Committee informed this during the announcement of bandh yesterday.
