Balasore, Aug 19: As the Galudih barrage in Jharkhand is releasing flood water from the barrage, the Subranarekha River is flowing above the danger level thus creating tension for people in Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts. It’s stated that the water level of the river has crossed the danger mark of 10.36 meter at Rajghat in Balasore district.

With this a chance of flood is likely to happen in the Subarnarekha basin area, especially in Rasagobindpur block of Mayurbhanj district and Jaleswar, Basta, Baliapal and Bhogarai areas in Balasore districts thus hampering lives of four lakh people in more than 250 villages. As a result, the Odisha government has sounded a high alert in Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts. Taking the impending floods into consideration, collectors of these two districts have been given necessary directions to stay on high alert and prepared to face the circumstances.

Instructions have been given to them to keep the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) updated about the situation at regular intervals. As per reports, heavy rainfall have lashed the upper catchments of Subarnarekha with Jamshedpur recording the highest rainfall at 185 mm thereby forcing the authorities of Galudih barrage to release excess water in the lower catchments.
