Bhubaneswar, Aug 29: Today the National Green Tribunal (NGT) prescribed an order to the Ministry of Forest and Environment (MoEF) to submit a complete status report on the controversial Polavaram project. It’s been demanded by the tribunal to the ministry to appear personally before it. The next hearing of the case is expected to be on September 5. Although both Odisha and Chhattisgarh had raised objections to the project, but the Andhra Pradesh government had still been determined and proceeded with the project which has accorded the status of a national project.
Earlier, the NGT had directed for a joint inspection of the Polavaram dam construction site by the Andhra Pradesh Government, State Pollution Control Board and Polavaram Project Authority based on a complaint regarding the dumping of mud in the West Godavari district.
