Gunupur, Aug 30: Police today arrested seven villagers of S. Chintaluguda village under Gunupur police limits in Odisha’s Rayagada for allegedly killing a man named Madhab Sabar (55), as they suspected that he killed fellow villagers through witchcraft.
As per reports, on August 21, the villagers collectively asked Madhab to come out of the house at around 8 pm. He was allegedly taken to the middle of the village where he was interrogated by the villagers. Madhab remained silent and finally the villagers decided to kill him by forcing him to consume pesticide. Afterwards, the villagers cremated the body at the village cremation ground.
The police visited the village today after a written complaint was filed by the deceased Madhab’s wife Sambari on Sunday. They visited the spot where Madhab was allegedly killed. Rabi Das, the prime accuse, in presence of witnesses took the police to the cremation ground from where they collected few bones of deceased Madhab and also seized the empty pesticide container from which Madhab was forced to consume.
In the presence of a magistrate, police interrogated the seven persons involved in the alleged killing and conducted necessary investigations.
