More than 30 pupils hospitalized on consumption of Deworming Antidote

Kalimela, Sept 2: On Wednesday under the Kalimela Block in Malkangiri district around 30 school students heading from three schools are said to have fallen sick on consuming a deworming medicine dispensed at their schools. Immediately they were hospitalized to Kalimela Community Health Centre. It’s stated that these deworming medicines were distributed by the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and the Anganwadi workers to the students at various schools in the block. To specify, more than 100 students belonging to the MPV-36 PUPS School were given Albendazole medicine which is an anti-worm medication, after the mid-day meal. Similarly, a fifth class student Soni Majhi of Tentuliguda Primary School under Gamphakonda Panchayat and an eighth class student of Vivekananda Vidyapeeth at MV-72 were given the same medicine. All of a sudden after a few minutes they started complaining of having vomiting and abdominal pain. As a result, they all were admitted to the Kalimela CHC. The students are recovering after receiving treatment, the health center informed the media.
