Massive Protest Rally seen by Odisha Farmers; demand being price, prestige and pension

Jajpur, Sept 2: Yesterday at Brundadeipur village under Dharmasala block in Jajpur district a mass of Odiya farmers under the banner of Navnirman Krushak Sangathan staged a massive rally for the fulfillment of their long standing demands of price, prestige and pension.

Around 1300 farmers were seen at the rally and the farmer’s body also gave out a warning that if the said demands are not met then similar protest rallies will be staged across 29 districts in the state in the days to come. It’s stated that yesterday was the diamond jubilee of the Farmer’s Day which was first observed by the Utkal Krushaka Sangha on Sep 1, 1938 here led by Nabakrushna Choudhuri, Malati Devi and Sarangadhar Das. Also the farmers will be gheraoing the State Assembly in the month of December if their demands are not fulfilled within a span of two months.

Notably, the farmers have long been demanding payment of compensation to the families of the deceased farmers, provision of Rs 5,000 pension for farmers, better procurement facilities, higher minimum support price, and better social recognition and drought compensation among others.
