Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: In the capital city, the beginning of Ganesh Chaturthi festival on Monday witnessed people coming out in raincoats instead of new clothes due to rain caused by a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal.
The decorations at many mandaps in the city were damaged and kept the visitors away due to the recurrent showers. As much as 32 mm of rain has been received by the city in the past 24 hours.
As per the information received by Jitendra Kumar Rao of Winner Association in Sahid Nagar, many people could not come to visit their tallest Ganesh idol in the city ‘Thailand Ganesh’ which is over 25 ft due to the rain. However, he is hopeful that the skies would clear soon so that the visitors would start coming into their pandal.
Besides, there was a low turnout of shoppers’ yesterday morning at the idol makers and sellers of accessories.
Also, people could not go to visit other pandals in the city as the rains made everything wet and messy and spoiled the mood of the people.
