Bhubaneswar, Sept 8: It was the third evening of GKCM Award Festival organized by Srjan at Rabindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar showcasing the beautiful blend of rhythm, movement and music of Odissi represented by eminent dancer Rahul Acharya followed by flawless and expressive performance of Tabla by Pandit Yogesh Samsi.
Shri Rahul Acharya a noted Odissi dancer starting his first presentation was “Harihara Mangalacharan” set to Rag-Bhatiar & Pahadi and Tal-Ektali. The music and dance choreographed by
Guru Durga Charan Ranbir followed by “Pallavi” set to RagChakrabak, Tal-Ekatali and music composed by Nirmal Mohapatra and dance choreographed by Guru Durga Charan Ranvir. Rahul’s third presentation was “Priya Charushile” followed by “Mokshya”. Music accompaniment in Manjira by Guru Durga Charan Ranbir, in Mardala by Niranjan Patra, in Vocal Sukanta Kumar Kundu, in violin by Ramesh Chandra Das and in flute by Srinibas Satapathy.
Second item of the evening was Tabla Badana by Pandit Yogesh Samsi. Pandit Samsi’s genius is his ability to evolve a distinctive style of his own without diluting the sanctity of tradition with which has been mesmerizing audiences all over the globe. His intricacies on the tabla have captured the hearts of both the young and veterans alike. He was accompanied by Tanmay Deochake in Harmonium.
The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Shri Hari Shankar Upadhyay, Guru Aruna Mohanty, Guru Meera Das and Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra, Director, Srjan. The programme was compared by Er. Srinivas Ghatuari and Najia Allam.
