Bus falls off a bridge in Odisha’s Angul district; PM offers condolences

Bhubaneswar, Sept 9: In a road mishap near Deulijhari in Angul district on Friday, atleast 21 were killed and around 30 others are stated to be critical when a Boudh to Athamallik bus carrying them fell off a bridge at Puruna Manitri.

Reportedly, the driver of the bus carrying around 60-65 persons from Boudh to Athamallik lost control of the vehicle following which the bus fell of the bridge. The driver of the bus fled from the spot after the mishap.

While one critically injured woman named Pritimanjari Nayak was shifted to the SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack by helicopter from Angul district headquarters hospital as her condition deteriorated, later three others were brought to the SCB hospital by road.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed sorrow and directed the police personnel and district administration to take quick steps for the treatment of the injured and also announced that the medical treatment would be provided free of cost. He also announced the compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of each deceased.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his deep sorrows for the people who were killed and injured in the mishap. He also offered his prayers and condolences to the affected family members.
