Bhubaneswar, Sept 14: After finding him guilty for graft, Joda police station’s former Assistance Sub inspector (ASI) named Kabibar Nayak has been sentenced to three year imprisonment with Rs 30,000 fine, by the Special Vigilance Court in Keonjhar, Odisha Judge Mansa Ranjan Barik. Additional six month imprisonment will be imposed on him if he fails to pay the fine amount, court further ruled.
It may be noted that, in 2003, the vigilance had caught Kabibar red-handed while taking Rs 5,000 as bribe from an accused wife.
Notably, a man named Kishore Majhi of Budhbeda village had been arrested in charge of a criminal case and that time Kabibar was on the post of an ASI at the Joda police station. After the rejection of bail plea of Majhi by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court of Barbil, he registered a bail plea in Keonjhar District and Session court. Even though police had knew that the court would not grant bail without submission of case diary, the police knowingly delayed the date of submission of the case diary.
On March 2, 2013, wife of Majhi visited the Joda police station and requested for submission of case diary to the court, to the then Investigation officer (IO) Kabibar. For doing this kabibar had asked Rs 7,000 as bribe from the lady. On unavailability of the said amount, Luski Majhi, wife of Kishore paid him Rs 1000 on the same day. But Kabibar asked her to pay Rs 5,000 more.
However, the bail plea of Kishore was rejected on March 5, 2003 as no case dairy was submitted in the court.
Left with no option, on March 6, Luski informed about the entire matter to the Vigilance following which the vigilance laid a trap to arrest Kabibar red-handed.
As a result, he was nabbed by the Vigilance that too while taking Rs 5,000 as bribe from Luski.
Currently, Kabibar was working as an ASI at Hatibari Police station in Sundergarh.
