Bhubaneswar, Sept 26: Yesterday the Congress party organized its Sankalp Samabesh at Congress Bhavan in Bhubaneswar for taking note of the upcoming panchayat elections and also a meeting of the block Congress chiefs was held at PCC office in Bhubaneswar yesterday regarding the same matter. Central leader and party Odisha in charge, B.K. Hariprasad was seen present at the meet.
Based on the recommendation of Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, the PCC has formed an election committee and a manifesto committee ahead of the rural polls in the State. PCC president Prasad Harichandan, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Narasingha Mishra, Former Chief Minister Hemananda Biswal, Former Union Minister, Kahnu Charan Lenka, Former PCC chief, KP Singhdeo, Niranjan Patnaik, Former PCC president Jayadev Jena, former Rajya Sabha MP Ram Chandra Khuntia, Former Minister Sarat Patnaik, Former Union Ministers, Srikant Jena, Chandra Sekhar Sahu, Bhakta Charan Das, Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra, Ramchandra Ratha, Ramakanta Mishra, Surendra Singh Bhoi, Chiranjib Biswal, Jagannath Patnaik, Matlub Ali, Kishore Patel, Sibananda Ray, Samir Kumar Rout Ray, Gurupad Nanda, Sarat Rout, Suresh Kumar Routroay, Sontosh Singh Saluja, Sandhya Mohapatra, Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Naba Das, Rabindra Sethy, Ripunath Seth, Judhistir Jena, Suvendu Mohanty and Debasis Patnaik have been included as members in the committee. The convener of the election committee is Mohammed Mokin and there are 37 members in it.
Apart from this, Mahila Congress president, Sasmita Behera, Youth Congress president, Loknath Maharathy, Chhatra Congress president, Itish Pradhan and Naba Nayak have been taken as the ex-officio members. Similarly, Sk Matlub Ali, Kailash Acharya, Sarat Rout, Ganeshwar Behera, Narayan Patra, Hamid Hussen, Biswaranjan Mohanty and Asif Ali are in the 9-member manifesto committee with Sulochana Das is its convener. Senior leaders have been assigned to look after the elections in various districts.
