Bhubaneswar, Sep 26: Yesterday the second edition of the Bhubaneswar Cyclothon held here in Odisha received an overwhelming response as people from various walks of life regardless of their age participated in the event. The event was organized in order to spread awareness on healthy heart ahead of the World Heart Day which is going to be observed on Sept 29. The Cyclothon race started from Sikharchandi Square in the city at about 6:30 AM and ended at Kalinga Stadium via Jaydev Vihar. The 12 km long distance was covered in about an hour. Hundreds of cyclists across age groups participated in the annual event.
The eminent personalities and ministers who graced the occasion were Sports and Youth Services Minister Sudam Marandi, Twin City Police Commissioner YB Khurania, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, renowned heart specialist Mahendra Tripathy, former cricketer Debasish Mohanty, former women’s football captain Shradhanjali Samantaray, Olympian Dutee Chand, athlete Amiya Mallick, mountaineer Ganesh Jena, chess grandmaster Kiran Manisha Mohanty, Ollywood actor Archita Sahu, actor Sabyasachi Mishra, singer Ira Mohanty. Event sponsor and ‘All That Jazz’ MD Samsher Singh Hura and Sambad editor Soumya Ranjan Patnaik encouraged the participants.
Notably, World Heart Day is observed specifically to spread awareness about the four main factors that affect the human heart – use of tobacco, improper diet, lack of physical exercise and excess consumption of alcohol.
