Dr Mahesh Sharma Flag off Sightseeing Tour of Delhi’s Monuments and Heritage for Divyang Children on World Tourism Day

New Delhi: September 27: Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism and Culture flagged off a Sightseeing Tour of the Monuments and Heritage places of Delhi for Divyang children on the occasion of World Tourism day 2016 here today. This unique and noble way of celebration was organised by the Ministry of Tourism. 35 Divyang students from Class 2nd to 6th of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya School for Divyang Children, Minto Road, New Delhi participated in this Sightseeing Tour of many Monuments and Heritage places of Delhi.

 Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mahesh Sharma said, “Accessible Tourism for all is about the creation of environments that can cater for the needs of all of us, whether we are traveling or staying at home. May that be due to a disability, even temporary, families with small children, or the ageing population, at some point in our lives, sooner or later, we all benefit of universal accessibility in tourism.”

Shri Vinod Zutshi, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism said, “On this year’s World Tourism Day help us spread the word of both the importance and immense benefits universal accessibility has and can bring to society at large.”

Shri Arun Srivastava, Regional Director (Northern India), Ministry of Tourism wished Happy World Tourism Day to all and said, “This unique opportunity will provide an opportunity to these Divyang students to take glimpse of important monuments & Heritage of Delhi. This effort is also create awareness among all involved in the tourism industry in the country to remove all the barriers and provide accessible tourism opportunities to all.

Ever since its inception, World Tourism Day is celebrated on 27 September to foster awareness among the national & international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. As the official day set aside in the United Nations Calendar the celebration seeks to highlight tourism’s potential to contribute to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals, addressing some of the most pressing challenges society is faced with today.
