Federation of Indian Mineral Industries crowns Sukinda Chromite Mine of Tata Steel of Jajpur the Bala Gulshan Tandon Excellence Award for best performance in 2015-16

Bhubaneswar, Oct 5: Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI), the mining body of the country, has awarded the Bala Gulshan Tandon Excellence Award to Sukinda Chromite Mine of Tata Steel of Jajpur. The award has been given for the all-round performance for the year 2015-16.

Minister for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines, Piyush Chawala handed over the award to Executive-In-Charge, Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD), Tata Steel and Rajesh Patel, Chief, Mining, Sukinda Chromite Mine of Tata Steel, D.B Sundara Raman on Monday at New Delhi on the occasion of the 50th Annual General Meeting of FIMI.

After analysis of overall performance by experts in the field of Environmental best practice, Corporate Social Responsibility, finance and human resource management and biodiversity conservation, the jury committee selected the winner. Annually, nine awards are being given by FIMI in four categories, like Environment, Health and Safety, Social Awareness and Overall Excellence.

Company will adopt best practices to pursue excellence and will promote comprehensive growth by companies operations, said Raman on receiving this honour.

Notably, SCM is the first mine in the country to come up with Sustainable Development Framework in January 2016, a concept proposed and promoted by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, for the development of culture of sustainable mining in the country. It was also honoured with CII ITC Sustainability Award 2015 for Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility.
