Dhenkanal, Oct 13: For the post of Dhenkanal Municipality Chairman, the by-poll will be held today.
For the seats reserved for the scheduled tribes (STs), all political parties will give their candidates. According to the schedule, filing of the nomination for the post will be held at the premises of the Municipality office at 10 am. The voting for the post would be held between 1.30pm to 3pm following which the results would be declared today after the counting.
For the duty as an election officer, the district sub-Collector has been appointed. Besides, for smooth conduct of the election, police have tightened the security arrangements.
Notably, there are 23 councilors in the Dhenkanal Municipal Council. Indramani Behera, Dhenkanal Municipality chairman had lost a no-confidence vote on August 1. The Congress had brought the motion against him by alleging that he had not taken Councilors to confidence while taking decisions regarding various projects and also for his alleged involvement in several corruption charges.
Thus, a decision to conduct the by-poll election was taken by the State Election Commission after hearing of a petition over the issue filed in the High Court.
