Mahanadi water dispute; Congress legislature party to meet the President today

Bhubaneswar Oct 13: With the dispute over sharing of Mahanadi water between Odisha and Chhattisgarh governments still going on without any progressive resolution, the Congress led by the Opposition leader Narsingh Mishra is scheduled to meet the President of India Pranab Mukherjee today to discuss over the Mahanadi issue while the ruling BJD has sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As per the schedule, the Congress legislature party will meet the President at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi today and would request him for his intervention in the matter and would ask him to stop the construction of barrages undertaken by Chhattisgarh government over Mahanadi River to protect the interest of Odisha’s people.

Besides, Bijay Mohapatra, BJP leader has alleged that the State Government has failed in finding a solution over the problem.

Meanwhile, the BJD spokesperson Amar Prasad Satpathy said that the party is presently reviewing the administrative and legal course of actions to handle the issue and it will continue its protests against the projects undertaken by the Chhattisgarh government.
