Use of Thuraya Satellite phone; police arrests four Philippines nationals

Berhampur, Oct 24: In a case of violation of the Indian Wireless Telegraph rules by talking over Thuraya Satellite phone, four Philippines nationals have been arrested by the Ganjam Marine police on Sunday.

As per sources, the four identified as Second Officer Nathaniel A. Faza, Chief Officer Librado P. Jemina, chief cook Eduardo S. Gruspe and chief cook and ordinary seaman Jescel B. Bautista, had arrived at Gopalpur Port in a MB Fortune cargo vessel, to collect black sands from the Rare Earth Ltd (IREL).

After the arrest, they were produced in the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court, Chhatrapur. The court has granted them bail yesterday itself.

It may be noted that, under Section 6 of the Indian Wireless Act and Section 20 of the Indian Telegraph Act, India has banned the use of Thuraya satellite phone in Indian territorial waters.
