Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: This year the citizens would celebrate a pollution-free Deepawali and for this the BMC has made plans to hold an awareness drive in which the denizens would plant trees and not burst crackers for a change in this festive time. They have decided to plant saplings in some parks and government lands. This information was given by Bhubaneswar city Mayor, Anant Narayan Jena. All this is been planned by the BMC to spread the message of celebrating an eco-friendly Diwali this year to all the residents.

The BMC has also appealed to the people to purchase earthen lamps which are biodegradable and at the same time look beautiful in the night even. Further on, even intellectuals and scientists have supported the civic body. Even the Odisha State Pollution Control Board senior scientist, Dilip Kumar Behera has openly welcomed the theme pollution-free Diwali forwarded by the BMC.

Notably, in 2005 the SC had ordered the Central Govt to ban bursting of sound-emitting firecrackers between 10pm and 6am in the country. The cops should make sure that there is no violation of the order, informed Shankar Parsad Pani, an environmental activist and lawyer.
