Niladri Bije Case: Orissa HC orders cops not to arrest Puri’s Jagannath Temple servitor till further orders in Cuttack, Odisha

Cuttack, Nov 12: Yesterday a senior servitor at the Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri named Damodar Mahasuara was granted relief as the Orissa High Court directed the police not to arrest him till further orders are being given. This order came in as a reply to the petition filed by the servitor in which the servitor had challenged the action of the police of declaring him as an absconder for having a in the Niladri Bije fiasco that took place on July 17 this year.

However, the court has asked the servitor to appear before the investigating officer on November 21. Meanwhile, a committee comprising of senior lawyers has sent a proposal to the Puri Collector for attending a meeting to resolve the case. Regarding this the committee has planned to visit Puri on Nov 19 to meet the Collector. It has been decided that after meeting the Collector, the lawyers’ committee will submit a report to the High Court. The High Court will then have the next hearing of the case on November 29.
