Cuttack, Dec 7: Seven forms of flood resistance paddy have been aroused by the Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI)’s Scientists. This paddy are capable to grow with little requirement of water. Official sources informed that the paddy would be available to the farmers very soon.
The name of the newly developed paddy are CR 207 Shreemati, 209 Priya, 409 Pradhan, 500 Prasant, CR 800, CR 910 and CR 311 which are named as Mukul. Capable to grow in less water, developed by Dr. Sarat Kumar Pradhan, CR 207 can be harvested in 110 days and per hectare it would produce a yield of 40-50 quintal paddy and this same yield can be obtained from CR 209.
With the ability to fight with flood, the CR 409 can survive for 7 days after getting submerged. Taking around 160 days for harvesting, the paddy can provide a yield of 50-75 per hectare. CR 507 has got the pest resistance power. Taking 160-165 days for harvesting, it would provide a yield of 47-56 quintal. Characteristics of CR 800, developed by Dr. Sarat Kumar Pradhan and J N Reddy, are that they have the leaf burning insects’ resistance power and takes 140 days as for the harvesting time period.
The yield is 50 quintal per hectare and CR 910, developed by S S Chayu Patnaik, having the quality of Basmati rice can be harvested in 145 days. For economical backward classes, CR 311 will be beneficial. It has 10 percent protein and 21ppm zinc, Dr. Krishnendu Chattopadhyay has developed this paddy.
