Newborn dies after hospital neglects

Phulbani, Dec 12: A newborn bay on Saturday late night passed away at the veranda of a State run hospital due to medical negligence in the district.

Identified as Mita Digha of Sinemila village in Phulbani was admitted to the Tumudibandha CHC on December 9. But due to her acute health conditions of high BP, the doctors prescribed her medicines advising her to go home, as the expected delivery was to be after 12-15 days.

But Mita’s increasing labor pain after returning home on the same evening led the family to call for 102 ambulance service at about 8.30 pm. But the ambulance reached at about 10.30 pm and dropped Mita at about 11 at the CHC. After Anil, Mita’s husband’s continuous knocking on 2-3 closed doctors in the hospital, no one responded including a staff nurse’s house, as they were off-duty. However Mita gave birth to a baby boy on the hospital Veranda and a sweeper took them inside a room. But unfortunately, soon later the newborn took his last breath.

After informed, a staff nurse reached the spot and took Mita under treatment, saying there was no doctor available.
