BDA to come up with 2600 affordable housing units in the state capital

Bhubaneswar, Dec 15: BDA to provide affordable houses to the denizens of Odisha capital. In a bid to provide such facilities, the BDA on Thursday has invited proposals from various private real estate sectors to build a number of 2600 affordable houses in Chandrasekharpur in the state capital over 20.31 acres of land.

To promote development of affordable houses, BDA has issues the request for proposal as per the Model-III Policy for Housing for All Urban Areas, Odisha, 2015. The houses will have a super built area of 346.6 square feet each along with common facilities like drinking water, roads connections, power supply, street lamps, solid waste management system and drainage system. While the authorities have also planned for primary schools, Aanganwadi center, Health center and shopping cluster in and around the neighborhood, said sources.

The project will be developed in a PPP model. The successful bidder in the project will develop 65% of the mentioned area into 2600 affordable housing units along with the amenities with its own cost. However, the rest 35% of the land would be developed into high-end houses or commercial complexes to sell them in the market rates, for the developer to get his investment back.

However, the development of commercial projects will be governed by the RERA act, 2016, announced by the central government. The housing projects has to be completed by a time bound of 18 months, accordingly the developer has to work on it.
