Odisha Boat rules amended

Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: Following the Chillika boat Mishap in the recent days, the Odisha Commerce and Transport department has amended the Boat Rules in Odisha. First of which, is insurance for all passengers travelling in a licensed boat.

Along with 2750 life jackets, 550 life buoys and more than 100 fires extinguishers will be provided to the licensed boats. The transport department will also launch a toll free helpline number, displayed on each Ghats and boats.

Today about 2400 boast are operating in the state in nearly 135 water bodies out of which only about 1770 are licensed. In a bid to provide insurance to passengers, the transport department will spend an amount of Rs 1 crore, said sources.
