Kendrapara, Dec 22: In a similar incident of carrying corpse on shoulders, a man named Sarat Barik was seen carrying his father’s dead body after not getting any help from the Community health Centre (CHC).

The incident happened at Kendrapara district’s Rajkanika block on Wednesday. As per sources, on Wednesday, Sarat’s father was admitted in CHC as he was suffering from jaundice but later while undergoing treatment, he died. Having no money, Sarat requested the hospital authority to provide help to carry the dead body back to the village. In reply, the hospital authorities said that no such facility is provided by the CHC. Later, leaving with no option, Sarat, helped by his uncle, carried the corpse to the village on his shoulders.

However, while going towards the village, a person helped Sarat in carrying the body on the bike. After reaching the village, the last rites of the deceased were performed. Interestingly, even though the body was there on the hospital’s verandah, the Health Officer in charge stated that he was not aware about the incident. Informing about the incident later, Dr Ajit Das, Health Officer in charge of CHS said that, CHC does not have any facility to provide conveyance.
