Regional workshop on sensitizing the state government on use of IHSN toolkit inaugurated

Bhubaneswar, Dec 22: Hon’ble Union Minister, Shri DV. Sadananda Gowda, Statistics and Programme Implementation, Govt. of India as Chief guest and Hon’ble Minister, Smt. Usha Devi, Women & Child Development, Planning & Convergence, Govt. of Odisha, as Hon’ble guest, jointly inaugurated a one-day regional workshop on the use of International Household Survey Network Toolkit for setting up of data Center in the state, organised by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, Govt. of India in collaboration with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Govt. of Odisha at the Hotel Swosti Premium, Bhubaneswar on Dec 22, 2016.

Dr. T.C.A. Anant, Secretary (S&PI)-cum-Chief Statistician of India and Shri R. Balakrishnan, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of Odisha were the Hon’ble guests present on the dais. High level officers from Govt. of India and state departments like Planning & Convergence, Industry, MSME, Agriculture, Education etc., participants from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha were among other delegates who participated in the workshop. Shri Panchanan Dash, Deputy Director General, Computer Centre, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, Govt. of India, delivered the welcome address.

Addressing the participants, Shri. Gowda emphasized that collection of huge data does not serve any purpose unless it is used for policy decisions and academic research which benefits the common man. As a panacea, the toolkit developed by International Household Survey Network being the standard bench mark, could be used to provide assistance in proper documentation, anonymization, disseminating and preserving datasets in the international data bank, for use in an optimum manner, he added.

The one-day workshop was ended with vote of thanks by the Director, Shri Dushasan Behera, Economics and Statistics, Odisha, Bhubaneswar.
