Paradip, Jan 4: The Paradip Marathon was organised on the foundation day on Monday at 8 am. On Jan 3 1962, the then PM of India, Pt J Nehru had laid the foundation of Paradip Port being invited by CM, Odisha Biju Patnaik. To celebrate this day PPT has been arranging this Marathon for the last 14 years. This year the Marathon started from Atharabanki instead of Sect-21 because of rough road and PPT Chairman, Rinkesh Roy flagged off the Marathon with 888 runners. Women participants were 66 whereas men participants 822. They were cheered up by the volunteers of different organisations and the public on road sides. The Marathon ended at Gopabandhu Stadium where the Chairman awarded the winners, Sukumati Laguri and Bisra Oram stood 1st in Women & Men Groups winning Rs. 12,500 each. Besides 20 from each group also were given different prizes. This event was arranged by the Gopabandhu Krida Sansad.
