Bhubaneswar Nov 13: In an exemplary gesture the eyes of Sardar Ram Singh Saluja, who died of cardiac arrest on 7th November 2015 have been donated by his son Mr. Bhupinder Singh at the Ispat Drushti Daan centre of Ispat general Hospital. The 70 year old Sardar Ram Singh Saluja was a resident of TCI, New Station Road. The corneas will be transplanted in the eyes of two visually impaired persons.
Notably the Ispat Drushti Daan has been established by Rourkela Steel Plant in association with Drusthi Daan Eye Bank of Bhubaneswar. Initially it started on 1st April 2014 as corneal retrieval programme. On 7th September 2015, with the approval from the State Govt., it has been converted into a full-fledged eye bank. So far, 231 corneashave been collected out of which 170 have been implanted. RSP has provided the infrastructure while the staff is from M/s. Drushti Daan. Clinical activities are being conducted by the Eye Department of IGH.
