New Delhi, Mar 11: On Friday, BP Kanungo was appointed as the deputy governor of the RBI upon the completion of the three years tenure of R Gandhi, by the government. Based on the statement posted on the website of the department of Personnel and Training, Kanungo would join office from Apr 3, 2017and serve for a period of three yeas or until further orders.
In Mar 2016, Kanungo had been appointed as the executive director of the RBI. His work was to take care of the Foreign Exchange and Bank Accounts and Internal Debt Management departments. Earlier he was the Regional Director at the Jaipur and Kolkata offices of the RBI. Being a career central banker, he has also worked as the banking ombudsman for MP and Chhattisgarh. He is also a certified associate of the Indian Institute of Banker.
He is a law student and had completed his PG in arts.
