Farmer from Balasore commits Suicide over crops loss issue

Balasore, Mar 16: In a tragic happening, unable to pay the moneylender’s loan amount after crop loss, a farmer belonging to Pakharabada village in balasore allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison.

Identified as Sudam Khatua, the deceased had taken Rs 1.45 lakh loan amount from a private money lender on a 10% interest rate for farming business. But the unseasonal rains and other issue, led to the damage of his crops. And unable to pay the loan amount, after the money lender scolded and offended him, he consumed poison and committed suicide, alleges family members.

He was taken to the Balasore DHH after he consumed poison, but as his health condition deteriorated, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, where he succumbed to his death while undergoing treatment.
