DHANBAD, SEPT 20: Riding on the all-round performance of skipper Sushree Dibyadarshini Odisha humbled Bengal by six wickets in the East Zone BCCI Under-19 Women’s Cricket Championship which began at Dhanbad today.
Electing to bat first, Bengal could manage to score only 123 runs in 49.4 overs. The Bengal batswomen fell in a heap against the onslaught of Odisha bowlers who bowled so aggressively that only three batswomen of Bengal — PP Paul (20), Tanushree Sarkar (33) and Dipu Das — could reach double figure.
Dibyadarshini and Banalata Mallick claimed three wickets each while Reemalaxmi Ekka chipped in with two wickets.
Chasing 124 for victory, Odisha reached the target in 43.3 overs losing four wickets in the process. Openers Sasmita Mahalik (33 off 68 balls) and Anjali Singh (28 off 83 balls) gave a fine start to the innings, scoring 57 runs in 21.1 overs before Sasmita got out. Dibyadarshini played a captain’s knock scoring an unbeaten 27 off 43 balls. Silpa Swain contributed 12 runs.
