Kendrapara, Mar 21: The Kendrapada police nabbed the 44-year-old man who is accused to have been lifted around 141 bikes besides a four-wheeler in 25 year of lawbreaking orgy. The accused Ranjan Kar committed the crime consecutively took everyone in awe. It’s stated that Kar had undertaken various inventive ideas and made a cunning plan to deceive people all across Odisha. He used to disguise himself either as a priest or a tantric and took innocense people for a ride and in the meantime abscond with two wheeler or for that matter household valuables. He had honed the skill of chanting ‘mantras’ ‘slokas’ in Sanskrit impeccably. The offences committed by the accused were either motor bike lifting or house theft.
The cops arrested him when he was trying to flee with a stolen motor bike from Nikirai village. He disguised himself as an astrologer-turned-priest and impressed a local resident by making him believe that a spell of evil had cast upon him and offering of puja was the sole remedy to get out of it. On completing the puja rituals, he slowly left the house upon stealing the house owner’s bike. It was then that the locals caught hold of him.
Kar confessed that he had stolen around 141 bikes in such ways. His first offence was committed in 1992 in Salipur near Cuttack city. He used to target people of remote villages using similar technique. Before his arrest, Kar had been apprehended four times. He mostly used to carry out his activities in Keonjhar, Jajpur, Cuttack and Kendrapara. Kar is an severe alcoholic. Earlier he has been arrested but was bailed out but he has no sign of repentance within him. He confessed to commit repeat offences again and again to meet with the expenses of alcohol.
Based on Kar’s confession, the cops are making serious efforts to arrest those who had bought the stolen bikes from Kar and once nabbed they would be put behind bars upon committing a serious offense of purchasing a stolen property.
