International Centre for Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) to be inaugurated by Union Agro Minister

Bhubaneswar, Mar 31: Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh will be inaugurating an International Centre for Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) at Arugul at the capital city outskirts on the occasion of Utkal Diwas on April 1. A press Meet regarding the same had been organised by the Centre. It further announced that Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy and Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patasani will be attending the function. To note, India is constantly suffering from a loss of Rs 23,000 because of FMD. Thus, samples from all over the country will be collected and brought to this research centre where a cure for the disease will be researched upon. This was informed to media by the Project Director of the institute, Brahmadeb Patnaik. He further stated that the Government of India targets that the disease will be controlled throughout the country and thus no new case will arise ever. Also, the eradication of the disease will also be looked upon.
