RS by-polls: BJD spokesperson and former minister Pratap Deb files nomination paper today

Bhubaneswar, May 15: Today the BJD spokesperson and former minister Pratap Deb filed the nomination for the by-polls of the Rajya Sabha lone seat from Odisha. Evaluations and scrutiny will be held tomorrow and withdrawal of candidates’ name can be done on May 18. The poll is scheduled to held on May 25. This elections are happening in view of the resignation of Bishnu Charan Das on Mar 21. Odisha CM and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik had last week declared Deb as the party candidate.

Pratap Deb is a former royal family member and is now the chairman of the Odisha State Housing Board. He has been the minister for technical education and training and information technology in Naveen’s Cabinet between 2009 and 2014. In 2014, he lost to the Assembly election from Aul constituency of Kendrapara.

On the other hand, today, former Finance minister Pradeep Amat will also be filing the nomination paper for the post of Assembly Speaker.
