Mumbai, Nov 20: Former media baron and step father of Sheena Bora – allegedly murdered by her mother Indrani Mukherjea –Peter Mukerjea has been arrested on Thursday by the CBI in connection with the probe into the 2012 murder.
He has been booked under IPC Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender).
Peter’s arrest, the fourth in the case, came hours after the CBI filed a charge sheet against Sheena’s mother Indrani, her stepfather Sanjeev Khanna, and Indrani’s former driver Shyamvar Rai in the Esplanade court in Mumbai.
Peter’s son Rahul was engaged to 24-year-old Sheena at the time of her murder and police claimed — before the case was transferred to the CBI — that Peter and Indrani did not approve of this relationship.
While officers did not elaborate on the nature of Peter’s involvement in the case, they claimed that during her questioning, Indrani had dropped enough hints that Peter knew of the murder.
Earlier Thursday, the CBI filed its chargesheet in the case after a two-month investigation. The chargesheet runs into more than 1,000 pages and includes 150 witness statements and 200 documents
In a statement, the CBI said: “During investigation, a medical board minutely examined the skeleton as well as conducted superimposition of the skull which established the identity of the deceased (Sheena). After thorough investigation, CBI filed a chargesheet against… three accused persons.”
Meanwhile, an AIIMS medical board confirmed that the remains exhumed from Raigad belonged to Sheena.
The board’s opinion, which was handed over to the CBI last week, was confirmed by a new computerised technology to establish identity, known as the skull photo superimposition technique, which doctors said was tried for the first time at AIIMS.
