Bhubaneswar, May 23: Though the production of paddy in the state has grossed heavenly, onion production seems quite low this year. With the decrease in production the onion prices in the state may rise by Rs 15 to Rs 20 this year. The onion production in the state this year has decreased by 7% than the previous year.

Though the central government had earlier warned the state about the rise in onion prices and to take timely measures to tackle the crisis, no steps have yet been seen taken by the state government.

Notably, in the western belt of Odisha, though the onion production has been better, but due to the lack of proper market and storage facilities in the area, the farmers are bound to sell the stock at a much much lower price.

The food and supply department after receiving the letter from the centre has called for a meeting with the concerned departments on May 24th, to discuss about tacking the situation and the rise in price situation.
