Odisha to get completely electrified by Dec 18′: Energy Minister

Repair works and maintenance to be kept on hold till monsoons.

Bhubaneswar, May 26: Breaking out silence, the state government today announced that 47,000 villages have been electrified till date out of a total 47,677. Reviewing the state’s energy department’s  achievements, the Energy minister Prafulla Mallick today said that Odisha has become a power surplus state after setting up off 100 new sub stations. With this the loss in commercial electricity has also reduced from 57% to 35%, while about 2000 employees have received jobs in the energy department and its subsidiaries, added Mallick.

To be noted, the total transformers distributed has reached about 2 lakhs from a mere number of 40,000 while it has seen an increase of 56,000 alone in the last three years, said Mallick while addressing the media.

He stated that the state will be completely electrified within 2019.

Notably, since few days, a lot of cries have been heard regarding the undeclared power cuts state wide. With this the state government has decided to stop the repair and maintenance work state wide. Energy minister Prafulla Mallick stated to the media that there is no shortage of power, as the state produces 4500 MW power, where the need is 4300MW. “We have decided to stop the maintenance work. CM Patnaik has also asked the energy department to go with the people’s need”, added Mallick.
