Bhubaneswar, May 30: From Jun 5. a trial run will begin at the BPIA to stop stamping of handbags as per the instructions of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) sources. The week long trial will only be for domestic flyers. From June 1, five airports at Chennai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna, Trivandrum and Guwahati will put an end to stamping ”security checked” on handbags of passengers of domestic flights. The other four airports considered for the week-long trial are Varanasi, Goa, Vishakhapatnam and Pune where the stamping of handbags will be stopped temporarily for now and will be completely stopped later. From Apr 1, handbag stamping has been completely stopped at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Cochin. The CISF officials have further stated that
handbag stamping will be stopped for international flyers in future. Increasing number of CCTV cameras and 24×7 power back up will help in ensuring safety even without stamping handbags as the latter delays the checking in process for passengers.
